IMMUNOGLOBULIN-A and other SCARY VEGETABLES
In 1987, Dr. Kathleen Dillon and
others found that when you laugh the body releases salivary
immunoglobulin-A. It sound as gross as scary vegetables
you’ve never tried but this is actually good for you.
Immunoglobulin-A is the body’s first defense against
invading micro-organisms.
Not only that, laughing has physiological
benefits too. The poker face that seems to be standard issue
in the workplace gets tugged and squeezed in all sorts of
clownish ways. This releases tension and increases circulation.
With more blood flowing you get more oxygen. With more oxygen
you feel better and can think more clearly. Not to mention
the proven fact that those who breathe oxygen regularly
actually live longer!
It is a commonly held belief that if you
have too much fun at work, you won’t get your work
done. In the extreme that might be true. But somewhere between
swinging from the fluorescents and boring oneself to death
by sitting on one’s own spirit, there has to be workable
middle ground.
Laughing and smiling more at work will
lighten your attitude, make you professionally irresistible
to co-workers, and fill you with enthusiasm. Laugh more
at work and spread this socially acceptable spasm. Infect
co-workers with laughter, and the zest for life that goes
along with it.
This week, laugh more at work. As a bonus,
try out one new scary vegetable too. It is all good.
