A WORD ON AWE
‘Ah’, the sweetness of ‘awe’.
Children are born with it. Adults long for it. Too few take
time to experience it.
The opposite of ‘Ah’ is ‘Yah,
right’. ‘Ah’ is the human default emotion
– unless I am wrong, and it is actually ‘weeeee’.
Daily newspapers sell ‘Oh, no’
and make cynicism look very appealing. But buy into it at
a terrible price. ‘Ah’ is free except for the
effort required to experience it.
Make it a personal discipline to take
in what is around you to feel that sense of ‘ah’.
Spring is prime time to be filled with strains of ‘ah’
like ‘whoa’ and ‘wow’. Take for
example the awesomeness of birds singing again; of buds
swelling, soon to burst into colour in a few weeks; or the
return of the sun and the promise of warmer days.
Right now even, take a deep relaxed breath
and feel the power of the universe within you. Let it all
out and surrender to your own strength.
Under every ‘ugh’ lies a
sense of ‘ah’ and on that expansive ‘awe’
the future of our expanding universe depends. Don’t
stop at ‘ugh’. Don’t trip over ‘uh,
oh’. Go for ‘ah’.
‘Uh’, that is all I have
to say about ‘awe’.
Have an awesome week!
